Karunia's Core Values
Service
Karunia Counselling Service is a faith-based Christian service offering support for individuals, couples and families who experience emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges in their relationships. We believe that every person is created in the image of God and is loved by God. We honour the client’s perspective, dignity and personal choice and by no means require the client to share the same faith or perspectives underlying our approach.
Karunia also offers educational opportunities for church and community members and leaders on family life and relationship health throughout the life cycle.
Counselling
At Karunia providing quality, professional service is a priority. Counsellors have at minimum a masters degree in psychology or marital and family therapy, each participating in the appropriate professional organization. For the FCSS clinic(see services page) some of the counsellors will be masters level student interns under professional supervision.
Cooperation
Karunia seeks to work cooperatively with leaders from the various Christian denominations and from other service organizations which promote relational health in the Leduc community. Counsellors function as members of a community team, seeking together to promote wholeness of life for all members of the Christian circle and beyond.
Simplicity
While maintaining a high standard of professional accountability to ethical codes and standards of practice for psychological counselling or psychotherapy services, Karunia will aim to remain simple and transparent in its accounting and administration practices. The goal is to provide service to anyone who requests it at a fee that is manageable for both client and counsellor. Fees are set on a sliding scale in consultation with the client.
Confidentiality
Counselling will be conducted in a confidential manner, adhering to CAP and MFT codes of ethics.
Philosophy
Family is understood to be at the core of every individual experience. Personal choice and perspective are set within our experience in key relationships with family members and in broader circles. Love, as a manifestation of God in our lives, is central to life itself, to good health, to growth, and to the ability to trust others and be trusted. We can choose to accept this love and its healing effect in our lives.
